DOT Physicals
Comprehensive, FMCSA-Compliant DOT Physicals for Commercial Drivers
If you drive commercially for a living — or are required to maintain a DOT medical certification — your health and compliance matter. At Rowland Chiropractic Clinic in Odessa, TX, Dr. Rowland is a certified FMCSA medical examiner who provides thorough, affordable, and driver-friendly DOT physicals that meet federal requirements.
What Is a DOT Physical?
A DOT physical is a federally required medical examination for commercial drivers. It is mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to ensure that drivers are physically and medically qualified to safely operate commercial vehicles on public roadways.
This exam is distinct from any employer-specific testing or CDL skills evaluations. It assesses your health status and documents your fitness to hold a Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT card).
Who Needs a DOT Physical?
A DOT physical is required for most drivers operating a commercial motor vehicle, including vehicles over 10,000 lbs, buses, hazardous material transports, or passenger carriers. It is also typically required for drivers holding a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).DOT Physical Exam Pricing

What's Included in Your DOT Exam
At Rowland Chiropractic, your DOT physical exam follows FMCSA protocols with clear, driver-focused communication:
Typical Components Your visit will typically include:
- Vision Screening: Drivers must have at least 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without correction) and adequate peripheral vision.
- Hearing Test: Ability to detect a forced whisper at 5 feet, with or without hearing aids.
- Blood Pressure & Pulse: Check for hypertension or irregular heart function.
- Urinalysis: Screening for conditions like diabetes and kidney disease (not a drug test).
- Full Physical Exam: Includes evaluation of your heart, lungs, abdomen, extremities, nervous system, and other risk indicators.
If you meet FMCSA standards, you will receive your Medical Examiner’s Certificate at the end of your visit.

How to Prepare for Your DOT Physical
Make the process smoother by bringing:
- A valid driver’s license or government-issued ID
- Eyeglasses or contact lenses (if you wear them)
- Hearing aids (if applicable)
- A current medication list
- Your medical history and any clearance letters (heart conditions, diabetes, sleep apnea, etc.)
Pro tips for drivers:
- Stay hydrated for accurate urinalysis results
- Avoid caffeine and nicotine 24 hours before your exam—these can raise blood pressure
